SpyAxe

What is SpyAxe?

The name is SpyAxe. It claims to be the "latest and one of the most technologically advanced applications on the Internet for detection and removal of potentially undesired items." SpyAxe states that it is "a Cyprus based developer of software and Internet-based systems." But no address can currently be found on their website.
SpyAxe fails to uninstall completely, it is difficult to exit without purchasing the full version of the product, and because it interferes with computer use and modifies other software without disclosure.

What makes SpyAxe a badware?

  • Exiting application requires multiple, non-obvious steps:  There is no exit or quit button in the application.  If you wish to quit the application, you can only do so by the delete spyware button which appears after a scan and that too only after you register and pay for the application.  The only other way to quit without paying is to press the X in the upper right hand corner of the application window, then too it minimizes and sits it the systems tray.  If you follow this with a right click to quit the application then after a confirmation prompt, you are able to get rid of this application, only for it to reappear once the computer is restarted.
  • Fails to uninstall executable:   When removing SpyAxe via the bundled uninstaller or the Windows uninstaller, an executable remains which can be used to reinstall the application.
  • Launches automatically after reboot and scans computer:  SpyAxe launches automatically after every reboot and then scans the user's computer.  The scan leads to a nag screen which prompts the user to purchase the full version. This automatic launching and scanning is not disclosed to the user during the installation process.

How to remove / fix Spyaxe if installed?

Many badware applications are specifically designed to be extremely difficult to remove. The use of normal removal procedures, such as Add/Remove Programs is often ineffective. Even if you believe that you’ve successfully removed an unwanted software application, there may still be remnants that can continue to wreak havoc on your computer without your knowledge.

In order to effectively remove badware applications, we recommend the use of both anti-virus and anti-spyware applications. Most consumer computer users have some form of anti-virus protection already. Make sure yours is reputable and updated to best defend your machine against the latest threats.

After you install your anti-virus and anti-spyware you will need to run them to scan for badware. Once the tools have completed their scans, follow the recommended instructions, which will usually include selecting malicious files for removal.

Recommendations to the users / customers

It is recommended that users do not install Spyaxe as it fails to uninstall and modifies software without disclosure.  Moreover the undisclosed launching and scanning of this product interferes with computer use. Until these drawbacks are corrected by the manufacturers it is not safe to use this product.
