Phishing email is the newest crime found wide spreading with the use of the Internet. This crime can lead to identity thefts, which is to take illegitimate use of one’s own identity. Phishing is usually the use of fake emails send to users that claim to be from trustworthy companies in the real world like banks, insurance or other financial organization. The Phishing mails resembles those from the legitimate companies sometimes even the logo. The only difference will be that the destination of your information you submit via these sites will be to some criminal gang.
To avoid such Phishing you need to be alert with the kind of emails you receive and certain aspects in the email such as the email sent is from an entirely different web mail address.
The “from” address can be faked as though it has come from your bank.
The email doesn’t use your proper name instead address you as “Dear Customer”. None of the official banks does that rather they specify your name.
Clickable links can be present in such email where you will be asked to submit your information. Never click on them; rather type in the address on your browser and go directly.
A request for personal information like passwords, credit card numbers and so on. None of the banks send emails requesting to submit passwords.
Spelling mistakes in the site address or email address.
A sense of urgency as if to reply to the email or else your account will be closed.
Sometimes the entire text message would be an image which will be linked to some bogus sites.
Nowadays the web browsers come with the facility to detect Phishing websites too. Make sure you keep your valuable information confidential
